Siberian Husky Rescue of Florida

The Siberian Husky is a very unique breed. Their friendly and outgoing temperaments make them a great all-round dog. As with so many animals, many Siberian Huskies are abused, neglected and abandoned every year and are in great need of loving care and both foster and forever homes.

Siberian Husky Rescue of Florida ,Inc. have directly and indirectly helped to save 920 dogs since their incorporation in December of 1999!

The mission of the Siberian Husky Rescue of Florida, Inc. is to rescue stray, abused, surrendered and unwanted Siberian Huskies.

The purpose of this not for profit organization, is to assist area animal control agencies, Humane Societies, and Siberian Husky owners with the humane care and disposition of these amazing animals.

Adopting an animal is a lifetime commitment to the love, care, health and safety of that animal. Neither more nor less than one would expect when adopting a human child. The adopter is not supplying a home to something that is “just a dog”. If you adopt a young Husky and they do what most every young dog does – have bathroom accidents in the house, chew on your furniture, knock things over and generally just run around having fun you should be tolerant of their actions. They will learn what they are allowed to do and what they are not if you give them a modicum of patience and firm but non-violent instruction.

All SHRF adoptable dogs are spayed/neutered if necessary, treated for heartworm, sarcoptic mange and other diseases, bathed, groomed and microchipped. SHRF provides loving foster homes and they try to crate train, house train and obedience train the dogs as much as possible. SHRF ensures all their dogs are up to date with their vaccines, flea and tick treatments. The required adoption amount is carefully calculated to cover only the most basic expenses for an individual dog. Many dogs come to SHRF with abuse or medical problems and they spend only what is necessary to get the dog back to good health. If required, SHRF will pay the animal shelter adoption fees to take these dogs out of the shelters, saving them from being euthanized in most instances, and then provide the funding for their expenses while being fostered (boarding/food/toys/crates). Every cent taken in by Siberian Husky Rescue of Florida, Inc. goes toward the dogs’ expenses. All personnel are volunteers in the true sense of the word; one who performs or offers to perform a service, out of his or her own free will – without payment. SHRF can almost guarantee that in all but the rarest of cases adopting a Siberian Husky will bring a surprising amount of joy and contentment. Their exuberance, loyalty, affection and penchant for high glee are contagious.

FOSTER ALERT!

SHRF are in desperate need of Foster homes to help save more Siberians from neglect, abuse, abandonment and illness. These precious fur balls cannot be saved without help. If you can open your heart and home to just one of these beautiful dogs you can make a difference! By becoming a Foster you are not only saving a life, you are helping give a Siberian a chance at a new home…a new life! For more information about fostering, please click HERE

Working to save Boxers

Boxer Rescue Los Angeles (BRLA) is a non-profit organization funded solely by private donations. BRLA believes that every boxer deserves a chance to live a happy life in a loving home. Abandoned or homeless Boxers will always find shelter, medical care, and ultimately a new home through the efforts of BRLA. By working with committed volunteers, local veterinarians, and trainers, they are able to rescue hundreds of animals every year, provide them with loving temporary care, and find them well-matched forever homes. Working in conjunction with city and county groups BRLA strives to educate the public and help end animal overpopulation and needless suffering. The commitment to share the love of Boxers is never ending.

BRLA never discriminates on the basis of health or age. All animals are evaluated, vaccinated, spayed or neutered, microchipped, and receive any necessary medical treatment before they are placed in carefully screened homes.

Without Borders Boxer Rescue is a Canadian rescue organization of volunteers who are dedicated to promoting responsible pet ownership and finding homeless Boxers, loving, forever homes with families living in Alberta, BC, Saskatchewan & Washington State. Without Borders Boxer Rescue is affiliated with Boxer Rescue Los Angeles and works with other rescue groups, shelters, veterinarians and breeders.

The dogs that are placed by WBBR are homeless due to no fault of their own.  They come to WBBR via BRLA, local shelters, breeders or are surrendered directly by their previous owners.  They arrive in rescue for various reasons, from allergies, to a family losing their home, to the family having to move, but one thing always stays the same; they are wonderful Boxers who would love to have a forever family to call their own.

Humane Society of Pulaski County

The mission of the Humane Society of Pulaski County is to rescue, care for and find homes for abandoned, abused, homeless and unwanted animals; to reduce suffering of animals; to investigate, prosecute, and prevent abuse; and to reduce the number of homeless animals through adoption, spay/neuter, and through education.

The Humane Society of Pulaski County provides access to low-cost, healthy, inoculated, sterilized animals to people seeking to adopt animals as pets only.

The Humane Society of Pulaski County is a private no-kill shelter, supported solely by donations, fund-raisers, bequests and grants. They have been rescuing animals since 1955 and receive no city, county or state funding.

HSPC maintains a 25,000 square foot shelter, with a clinic, a full-time veterinarian, and staff of 15-20 people caring for over 200 animals. Along with a strong volunteer program, they clean, feed, walk, train, exercise, love, and find good homes for these animals in need.

HSPC also has a special community outreach program, called Puppy Love, which takes puppies (and sometimes kittens) to visit residents of nursing homes, retirement centers, and women’s shelters. Touching and hugging these little pups, and receiving their unconditional love, uplifts the morale and the well-being of these citizens. The Puppy Love program makes approximately 40 visits to local facilities each year. Some of these visits were made with school or church service clubs, providing the added benefit of teaching young people the benefit of giving their time to help others.

By caring for homeless animals, investigating and acting on reports of animal abuse and neglect, as well as making low-cost pet ownership available, HSPC provides a needed and very beneficial service to the community.

HSPC also has a Humane Education program, which works to teach and respect for animals, proper pet care, and responsibility and to educate towards ending animal abuse and overpopulation.

HSPC has a huge amount of cats, dogs, horses and donkeys in need of permanent, loving homes. Here is a selection of just a few of them.

Orange County Cavy Haven

There are literally thousands of dogs and cats in need of adoption to loving, caring, permanent homes. However, we mustn’t forget there there are thousands of other animals, big and small, also in just as much need.

Orange County Cavy Haven is a non-profit organization dedicated to rehoming guinea pigs in Southern California. They rescue abandoned guinea pigs from shelters in Orange and Los Angeles counties.

OCCH guinea pigs are rehabilitated, socialized, and fostered by volunteers until they are ready to be adopted.

Orange County Cavy Haven was founded in 2003 as a rescue for guinea pigs. They are based in Orange County, but rescue guinea pigs from L.A. and Bay Area shelters as well. They also have foster homes in L.A. County.

New foster homes are always needed for temporary placement of guinea pigs waiting to be adopted. Please help OCCH rescue more guinea pigs from shelters. To ask about fostering, please contact cavyhaven_info@yahoo.com

Why cavies need rescuing

Many people buy guinea pigs in pet stores, while guinea pigs are being euthanized in shelters, primarily due to limited space and lack of adopters.

But why do guinea pigs wind up in shelters? Primarily, they come from homes where they were considered to be cheap, disposable “pocket pets” useful as starter animals for children. Since pet stores usually do a terrible job of educating people about cavy care, these guinea pigs are frequently neglected and unhealthy.

So what does a rescue do? Well, they maintain contact with volunteers at the shelters, and when guinea pigs arrive, they notify OCCH, who try to make space. Priority is always given to guinea pigs in high-kill shelters or those who charge only a minimum adoption fee, because reptile owners often seek out these shelters for snake food.

Check out these beautiful OCCH guinea pigs in need of care and adoption.

Abandoned Angels

Dedicated in Loving Memory of Rudy 08-06-94 to 11-15-04

Abandoned Angels Cocker Spaniel Rescue, Inc. is dedicated to the rescue and re-homing of cocker spaniels and other dogs in need of loving forever homes. No dog is rejected due to age or health and they will accept many dogs who have some temperament and/or medical issues.

Abandoned Angels rely solely on donations, whether through adoption or simple generosity from the public.  Due to limited  resources, priority is given to cocker spaniels and other dogs in local kill shelters who are in danger of being destroyed.  Owner surrenders are accepted on a space available basis.

Every Abandoned Angels dog has been spayed or neutered, is up to date with vaccinations, on heartworm, flea and tick preventative and has been fully vetted.

Abandoned Angels seek loving homes where their ‘Angels’ will be cherished and valued family members for the rest of their lives. They carefully evaluate not just a prospective adopter’s interraction with the dog, but also the dog’s interraction with his or her prospective adopter. A home visit may be required. They prefer adopters who have experience with cockers and/or have previously owned a dog, but do adopt to first-time dog owners.

Cockers thrive in environments where they spend quality time with their human family and participate in family activities – even if its just sitting on the couch watching tv together.

Adopting a rescued dog can be one of the most rewarding experiences in your life. Rescued dogs are often the most loyal companions and very loving. A rescued dog understands and appreciates what it means to be loved and cherished, after having lost that home and love. But like any strong, healthy relationship, developing a strong relationship with your rescue dog requires work and commitment.

Below is a slideshow of just some of the beautiful ‘Angels’ this wonderful rescue is caring for.

Some of these dogs have suffered abandonment, neglect and sometimes abuse. They require a patient, caring and committed home to help them adjust to their new environment.

Abandoned Angels often have dogs in urgent need of help. Sometimes just a small amount can help save a life. The photos and statements below make it clear how much this wonderful rescue organization cares and how fortunate these dogs are to have been saved from their previous horrific circumstances.

GLEEGIRLY EMERGENCYCASE 2132011

URGENT – PLEASE HELP SAVE GLEE aka GIRLY

Glee aka Girly arrived today from the Manhattan Shelter. OMG, we can NOT believe the horrendous condition she is in. She has a mammary tumor about 8 inches long, at least 4 inches wide hanging from her abdomen. It’s about the size of an eggplant. No wonder it ruptured, it drags on the floor. Our Vet said this is the largest mammary tumor he has ever seen. To make matters worse, both her eyes are bulging out of their sockets from untreated glaucoma. She is obviously blind and must be in excruciating pain from the pressure. The driver for the Mayor’s Alliance was actually in tears when she brought her to us. She was carrying her like a baby so that her tumor wouldn’t drag on the floor. We are so upset and horrified that someone actually owned this dog and neglected to provide her with medical care. Instead she was tossed in the street to fend for herself.

Glee is extremely sweet, gentle and loving. She may be blind, but she sees from her heart. She is obviously an Angel.

We URGENTLY need donations to fund Glee’s medical care. Sometimes “It takes a whole village to save a life” If everyone could just contribute $5 to $10 we may be able to save this Angel’s life.

Donations for Glee can be made via Paypal using the link on our website or by check payable to

Abandoned Angels

PO Box 545426,

Flushing, NY 11354.

Please share Glee with friends and family. Our heartfelt thanks.

Treasure

FOUND IN A DUMPSTER LEFT TO DIE

As the saying goes, “One man’s trash is another man’s treasure” … which am I to you?

Early one morning a man in Brooklyn went to toss his garbage in a dumpster and saw a discarded duffle bag inside. He heard a noise and noticed some movement, whereupon he got in the dumpster and unzipped the bag. Inside he found me – a beautiful 15 pound Cocker Spaniel with big blue eyes, wide with terror. I had been there all night and was shaking with cold and fright. Had he been just an hour or so later, I would surely be in a landfill now … the garbage was to be collected that morning.

This kind man brought me to the Brooklyn Shelter where, just as he was entering, a volunteer for Abandoned Angels Cocker Spaniel Rescue was leaving. She saw my little head peeking out of the bag and could not help but remark at how beautiful I am. That’s when my good Samaritan uttered the words that will remain with me all the days of my life: “One man’s trash is another man’s treasure”. It’s how I got my name as well as my dignity back. Everyone calls me Treasure.

I never actually passed through the doors of the Brooklyn Shelter. Instead, my bag and I were passed into the hands of a rescuer, who brought me to a local vet, who immediately placed me on IV fluids to treat my shock and dehydration. I also have some large mammary tumors on my underbelly that will need to be removed and biopsied once I am well enough, as well as a cherry eye that will need to be surgically corrected. In addition to surgery and multiple biopsies to ensure the masses are benign, I will need full bloodwork and an xray of my chest to be sure that the masses have not spread. I will also be spayed, fully vaccinated, and tested for heartworm before I can go home.

In these tough economic times, I am in urgent need of donations to fund my medical care, which will exceed $1500.00. If you consider me a Treasure instead of trash, please consider making a contribution towards my care.
Thank you for treasuring me. With gratitude always, Treasure

HAPPY UPDATE: Thanks to the kindness of of the people who donated, Treasure has come through her surgeries like a champ. The growth behind her ear was biopsied and came back benign. Although her mammary tumors were indeed cancerous, they were fully excised with clean margins. The cancer was of a slow moving form and there is no evidence that it had spread. Her prognosis in the long-term is very good. Treasure is ready for adoption NOW.
Please keep Treasure in your prayers and thank you for your support and donations!

CLOTHING BRAND LOOKS TO SAVE SHELTER DOGS!

All For One Clothing wants to make a difference in the lives of shelter dogs by giving people a way to wear their passion.

This clothing brand based in Alta Loma, CA hopes to raise one million dollars for local animal shelters. Inspired by the story of his own adopted shelter dog Shilo, Brandon Hopkins decided he needed to find a way to help.

During the search for a new puppy, Brandon was told how eight week old Shilo was left outside the Jurupa Valley Animal Shelter in a brown paper bag with her three brothers and sisters. Along with giving Shilo a loving home Brandon decided to start All For One with the mission of raising donations through the sale of t-shirts featuring dog themed designs. For every shirt that is sold $2 is donated to a local animal shelter.

After almost two years in the planning and preparation phase, All For One now has their first line of shirts featuring eight designs on their website www.AllForOneClothing.com. Each design features a dog theme and is printed in a limited edition. Along with the shirt each purchase comes with a human treat for the purchaser in the form of a silicone bracelet that lets people know the wearer cares about saving homeless dogs. The website also features which shelter is currently working with All For One and information about how to get in touch with the shelter about adopting a dog.

Already having participated in a charity event for New Beginnings Animal Shelter of Irvine, CA in which All For One donated two hundred shirts, they are excited to begin working with other local shelters to help lower the number of homeless dogs. Over three million dogs are put to sleep every year in shelters because they don’t find a loving home and All For One is hoping to change that by donating much needed funds that allow the shelters to care for dogs until they can find a home.

Sales of the latest All For One shirt pictured below, will benefit the Miniature Pinscher Rescue

An Urgent Message From RUFF

We Are in Danger of Closing – Please Help!

Dear Friends,

179. This is the number of dogs in our possession before the BP oil spill.

49. This is the number of dogs in our possession after the BP oil spill.

Since 2004 we have saved over 2,200 dogs. Our dog count has severely dropped due in part to the lack of funds after this disaster. In order to keep the doors open, we had to drastically reduce the amount of dogs we take in. While we found homes for over 100, we would like to provide a shelter for countless others that may find themselves in desperate need of care.

You are needed now more than ever.

In order to provide a loving, nurturing shelter for these dogs, we are in desperate need of your support and donations now more than ever before. We face an immediate threat of closing if we do not meet the bare minimum amount of funding to remain open.

These dogs need you now. Their lives depend on you.

Your donations and support determine our future as a no kill shelter. Please, find it in your hearts to spare any amount you are able to give. Your support will mean the world to our dogs, as well as ourselves. Every little bit helps.

Please help spread the word via our Facebook and Twitter accounts.

Thank you, from the bottom of my heart, for your time, love, and support.

Sincerely,

Janice Brooks

Crystal Lake Chamber of Commerce, Crystal Lake, IL 60039

The AAF Mission Statement:

The Assisi Animal Foundation (AAF) is dedicated to providing shelter, care and, when appropriate, re-homing suitable animals to caring, permanent homes. We abide by a no-kill policy, which allows for euthanasia only under professional veterinary assessment, recommendation and administration in cases of terminal illness which cause suffering, in cases of injury too severe to repair, or in cases of such severe aggression that it is a threat to other shelter residents and caregivers is present.

The AAF is dedicated to educating the public on such issues that impact on animal welfare, preservation and protection, developing humane attitudes and compassion in young people, providing a pet therapy program to nursing centers and providing a continuing care program for dogs and cats. The AAF is dedicated to improving and protecting sentient life.

The AAF is further dedicated to supporting trap, neuter, and return (TNR) programs to help alleviate and control the pet overpopulation tragedy, and which will lead to the county where the AAF offices are located becoming “no-kill.”

“Pets for Patient Progress”

The Assisi Animal Foundation introduced animal assisted therapy to our area back in 1987. The award winning program continues to grow, as does public and professional recognition of its benefits to residents of nursing facilities, assisted living, Alzheimers Centers and special disabilities facilities. Assisi, when feasible, has also made “shut-in” home visits. We are proud of this service to the community and the elderly and welcome volunteers willing to help. Please call, e-mail or write for information.

Trips to Africa & India

Because of our not-for-profit status, strong connections in countries we visit, and a mutuality of purpose concerning wildlife, we offer participation in spectacular safaris in East Africa and India, visiting wildlife habitat to see the legendary migrations from the Serengeti, tracking the regal Bengal tigers of India and experiencing some of the wonders of the world. These adventures are breathtakingly beautiful and exciting, offering not only comfort but luxury at dramatic savings.

Please e-mail us if you’d like information and include your full name and mailing address for brochures. We encourage you to do some comparison shopping. We think you’ll be amazed!

Kootenay Animal Assistance Program Society

KAAP is in the running to win $25k from the Pepsi Refresh Project

They need YOUR votes to help make it happen!

About Kootenay Animal Assistance Program Society

KAAP, Kootenay Animal Assistance Program Society, is a 100% volunteer, No-Kill, non-profit, registered charity helping those animals that fall between the cracks of existing animal welfare services in our community. KAAP is proactive; when they hear about a pet in distress, they go out and help them.

KAAP

Goals

  • Provide spay/neuter surgery for 150 disadvantaged cats and dogs
  • Provide vet care for pets who would not otherwise receive it
  • Provide medicines and special food for disadvantaged pets

Overview

Help us save lives.

We want to continue to be able to help those pets that are being turned away from animal shelters. These pets are typically old, sick, unattractive, or are victims of bad timing when shelters are full.

We want to continue to be able to help those pets owned by low income and otherwise disadvantaged pet owners, who can’t afford the rising veterinary fees to spay/neuter their pets, or to deal with emegency or chronic medical costs.

We want to continue to address pet overpopulation by providing TNR (trap, neuter, return of feral cats) or spay/neuter and re-homing services.

We want to continue to be able to offer our pets high quality foster homes, supplies, transportation, and adoptive services. Quality of care and quality of life are important for our pets in transition.

Community Benefit

Pet lovers are everywhere, and our community is one that values good pet care and happy pets. High value is placed on knowing that there is a service in the community that is accessible 7 days a week, proactive, professional, and has the funding to deal with situations that other animal welfare services turn down. It is important to our community to know that an old cat or dog will receive the best medical and emotional care while it is in transition, and has a very good chanceof finding a new home for the rest of their lives. Every day we are thanked by community members for the work we do, and we thank them for supporting us in many ways.

How will the $25K be used?

Budget Notes: KAAP volunteers donate foster home care, transportation, advertising, adoptive services. KAAP is 100% volunteer; all grants and donations are used for pet care.

Voting will only take a few seconds each day, but will help save lives.
